The travelling exhibition “Eka – The One” is drawing attention in Vijayawada at the Makineneni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram, where 64 Yogini paintings by artist Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan are on display. The collection presents Indian spiritual and tantric themes through a contemporary visual approach.

Moving beyond traditional religious interpretations, the exhibition explores the Yoginis from cultural , philosophical , and social perspectives. Each artwork represents a unique dimension of feminine energy , centred on ideas of creation, protection, and transformation. The Varahi Yogini painting, in particular, has stood out for its portrayal of courage , determination , and resilience .

The exhibition also features curated content explaining the spiritual context of the Yoginis, along with the documentary “Y64: Whispers of the Unseen,” directed by Jain Joseph, which delves into their history and philosophy.

Historically linked to the 9th–12th centuries, Yogini traditions are associated with distinctive temple sites in Hirapur, Bhedaghat, and Khajuraho, known for their circular, open-air structures and spiritual significance.

Based on over a decade of research, Dr. Unnikrishnan’s works connect ancient traditions with modern perspectives, incorporating themes of women’s empowerment and identity.

Organised with support from local cultural groups, the exhibition has received a positive response. With free entry, it offers an accessible and enriching experience for a wide audience.
