‘ Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ : Global diplomats join Modi’s green birthday tribute

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, launched as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday celebrations, drew an overwhelming international response in Delhi on Thursday. Ambassadors and High Commissioners from more than 70 countries planted saplings at the PBG Grounds, each one dedicated to their mothers, blending environmental action with an emotional tribute to motherhood.

Omani Ambassador Issa Saleh Alshibani praised the initiative as “a step at the right time,” calling India a long-time champion of environmental causes. “This is not strange to India, which has been supporting the environment for a very long time,” he said, also extending birthday greetings to PM Modi.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the plantation drive as a “deeply emotional mission,” noting that it honored both mothers and the motherland. “Maa will always be Maa, a universal symbol of love,” she remarked, emphasizing the personal and spiritual dimension of the campaign.

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared moving stories from the event, including an ambassador who broke down while dedicating a sapling to her late mother, and another who brought his mother along for the ceremony. “These moments highlight two powerful truths: the global reverence for PM Modi’s vision and the collective commitment to safeguarding nature,” Sirsa said.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ movement, part of the ongoing Sewa Pakhwada, has become both a global environmental push and a heartfelt celebration of the universal bond of motherhood.
