Eighth edition of India–UK military drill ‘Ajeya Warrior-25’ kicks off in Bikaner
India and the United Kingdom have launched the eighth edition of their joint military exercise, ‘Ajeya Warrior-25’, at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district. Beginning on Monday, the 14-day exercise marks another major step in strengthening defence cooperation and improving the forces’ ability to respond to modern security threats.
Conducted under a United Nations mandate, the exercise is designed to train both armies in counter-terrorism operations set in semi-urban environments scenarios that mirror the complex challenges faced by global forces today.
A total of 240 soldiers, evenly split between the Indian Army and the British Army, are participating this year. The Indian contingent is represented by troops from the Sikh Regiment, known for its operational experience and discipline. According to a defence spokesperson, the exercise will involve joint mission planning at the Brigade level, integrated tactical drills, simulation-based training, and company-level field exercises that replicate real-world counter-terror contingencies.
Beyond tactical drills, ‘Ajeya Warrior-25’ serves as a platform to exchange best practices, enhance coordination, and sharpen the ability of the two armies to operate together during complex missions. The training aims to build interoperability and reinforce mutual trust.
Held biennially since 2011, the Ajeya Warrior series has grown into a flagship defence engagement between the two nations. The 2025 edition underscores their shared commitment to professionalism, regional stability, and global peace, further strengthening a partnership that continues to evolve with changing security needs.
The last edition (7th) of Ajeya Warrior took place from 27 April to 11 May 2023 at Salisbury Plain in the United Kingdom.
