Eight Telangana Districts Under Special Watch Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

With a low-pressure system expected to trigger heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Telangana over the next two days, the state government has put district administrations on alert and ordered them to intensify preparedness measures. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy directed officials to remain vigilant, with particular attention to districts placed under a red alert by the weather department.

The minister instructed Collectors of Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda to begin precautionary measures without delay. Officials have been asked to closely monitor vulnerable locations, including low-lying areas, streams, ponds and places that have experienced flooding in the past.

Ponguleti stressed the importance of identifying potential flood-risk zones in advance rather than waiting for the situation to worsen. District administrations have been told to keep a continuous watch on water levels and local conditions and take preventive steps wherever there is a possibility of flooding.

The minister also called for close coordination among government departments to ensure that emergency responses are swift and organised. Where conditions become critical, officials should be prepared to evacuate residents from vulnerable locations and move them to safer areas. Adequate manpower, vehicles, rescue equipment and other essential resources should be kept ready so that relief operations can begin immediately if required.

As part of the preparedness measures, Collectors have been instructed to establish 24-hour control rooms and toll-free helplines in their respective districts. These facilities should remain operational throughout the rainfall spell and enable authorities to respond quickly to complaints, distress calls and requests for emergency assistance from the public.

Ponguleti urged residents to exercise caution as the weather system continues to influence the state. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and stay away from streams, ponds and locations witnessing strong water flow.

The government’s instructions come amid the forecast of another spell of widespread rainfall, with authorities focusing on early intervention, public safety and rapid emergency response in the districts facing the highest weather risk.
