Efforts Underway to Rescue Telugu Nationals Stuck in West Asia

Amid the rising tensions in West Asian countries , the Andhra Pradesh government has initiated steps in coordination with the Centre to safely bring back Telugu people from the state who are stranded there, the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) said.

APNRTS Chief Executive Officer P. Krishna Mohan stated that coordination is underway with the Ministry of External Affairs to arrange transit visas for Telugu people stranded in Bahrain . Through these visas, they will be allowed to travel to Saudi Arabia and board return flights to India from there.

He said some people from Andhra Pradesh are currently stranded in Manama , the capital of Bahrain, and are trying to reach Saudi Arabia before returning to India. Providing assistance to passengers stuck at airports remains a priority, he added.

Krishna Mohan further noted that flight services from Oman are continuing, and some passengers are gradually returning to India through those services. Despite the tense situation in the Gulf region, he clarified that no attacks have taken place on civilian areas so far.

He also mentioned that many workers from Andhra Pradesh employed in Gulf countries are engaged in crucial sectors such as utilities, electricity and energy, which fall under essential services. As a result, they are continuing their work and remain in those countries.

Meanwhile, AP NRI Empowerment and Relations Minister K. Srinivas said that nearly 15,000 people from Andhra Pradesh are currently stranded across various Gulf countries. The state government is working with the Centre to take comprehensive measures to ensure their safe return.

Officials added that APNRTS has set up special help desks to assist Telugu people abroad and is continuously monitoring the situation. Arrangements are being made to bring them back to India through additional flights as soon as conditions permit.
