Eemesco’s Major Book Donation Boosts AP Government Libraries

In a significant move to strengthen government libraries across the state, leading publishing house Eemesco has announced the donation of books worth approximately ₹1.40 crore . The decision was taken by the management of the publishing house, and its chairman Vijayakumar formally conveyed the same to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu during a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

As part of the initiative, Vijayakumar submitted a detailed list of publications that would be distributed to various government libraries across the state. He requested the Chief Minister to issue necessary instructions to the concerned officials to ensure that the books are made available to readers at the earliest.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu lauded Vijayakumar and the Eemesco management for their generous contribution. He stated that libraries play a crucial role in spreading knowledge and creating social awareness. Emphasising that sharing books is equivalent to sharing knowledge, he said such initiatives would greatly benefit students , unemployed youth and the general public.

Expressing concern over declining reading habits, the Chief Minister noted that efforts like this would help draw the younger generation back to libraries and contribute to cultural growth . The donated books include a wide range of publications covering literature , history , science , and competitive examinations , helping address the shortage of resources in government libraries.

Eemesco (M. Seshachalam & Co.), a renowned name in Telugu publishing with a legacy of over a century, was founded in 1923 by M. Seshachalam in Machilipatnam. Over the decades, the institution has emerged as a pillar of Telugu literature , publishing works across diverse genres and gaining widespread recognition.

Under the leadership of Vijayakumar , Eemesco has adapted to changing times by embracing digitalisation and making rare publications available in e-book format. Beyond business, the organisation continues to uphold its social responsibility through initiatives like the recent donation to Andhra Pradesh government libraries. Through participation in international book fairs, Eemesco has consistently promoted the Telugu language and its cultural heritage. Presently, the organisation operates from Hyderabad and Vijayawada .
