In a major breakthrough in the Rs 1,200-crore loan fraud case involving Delhi-based Amira Pure Foods Pvt Ltd (APFPL), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached Rs 94.76 crore held in a Singapore bank account linked to fugitive promoter Karan Chanana and associated entities.

The attached funds, amounting to USD 10.03 million, were traced to deposits in the Bank of Singapore in the names of Karan Chanana, Amira Pure Foods, and Anantya Pte Ltd. The action was taken under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as part of the agency's ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

According to the ED, the provisional attachment order has been served on Chanana through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) mechanism, under which India, the United Kingdom, and Singapore cooperate on legal and judicial matters. Chanana is currently based in the United Kingdom, while co-promoter Anita Daing is believed to be residing in Dubai.

Both Chanana and Daing were declared Fugitive Economic Offenders by a special court in Delhi in February 2026, allowing authorities to pursue and confiscate their assets under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018.

The money laundering investigation originated from a 2020 CBI FIR, which accused the company and its promoters of fraud, criminal breach of trust, cheating, and misappropriation, allegedly causing a loss of Rs 1,201.85 crore to a consortium of banks led by Canara Bank.

Amira Pure Foods has business operations across several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the UAE, Germany, and Mauritius. With the latest attachment, the total assets seized in the case have risen to Rs 226.26 crore, marking another significant step in the ED's efforts to trace and recover proceeds of crime parked overseas through international legal cooperation.
