ECI to celebrate 16th National Voters’ Day today

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will celebrate the 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD-2026) today in New Delhi, with the aim of promoting voter awareness and participation , particularly among young and first-time voters , and strengthening the democratic ethos of the country . The theme for this year’s celebrations is “My India, My Vote” , with the tagline “Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy.”

The event will be presided over by President Droupadi Murmu as the Chief Guest, while Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal will attend as the Guest of Honour. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi, will lead the programme.

As per tradition, the President will address the gathering and distribute Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to newly enrolled young voters. She will also present the Best Electoral Practices Awards in various categories, recognising excellence in election management, use of technology, voter awareness initiatives, enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, training and capacity building, as well as special awards and awards for the media.

The occasion will also witness the launch of two publications “2025: A Year of Initiatives and Innovations” and “Chunav Ka Parv, Bihar Ka Garv,” documenting key reforms and the successful conduct of the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections in 2025 . A video highlighting the ECI’s global leadership in electoral management and democratic development will also be screened.

A dedicated exhibition showcasing various aspects of the electoral process, including preparation of electoral rolls and conduct of elections, will be organised. The exhibition will highlight recent voter-centric initiatives of the ECI and the conduct of the Bihar Assembly elections.

National Voters’ Day celebrations will be held simultaneously across the country at the state and district levels by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and District Election Officers (DEOs). Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will also organise programmes at polling stations, felicitate newly registered voters and distribute EPICs to new electors, in line with the objective of encouraging enrolment of eligible citizens and highlighting the importance of voting .
