ECI SIR Verification: Send an SMS to Check Your Voter Details

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rolled out a simple SMS-based verification service to help voters check whether their details have been recorded during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The initiative is aimed at making voter verification more accessible, particularly for people who do not have access to smartphones or internet services.

As the electoral roll revision gathers pace across the Telugu states, many voters have been uncertain about whether their information has been successfully updated. To address these concerns, the Commission has enabled a facility that allows electors to verify their status using any basic mobile phone in just a few seconds.

To access the service, voters need to type ECI, leave a space, enter their EPIC (Elector Photo Identity Card) number, and send the SMS to 1950. For instance, a voter can send ECI UTQ0777245 to the designated number. Shortly after, the Election Commission sends a reply containing the voter's name, EPIC details, or other relevant electoral information. If these details appear in the response, it generally indicates that the voter's information has been captured as part of the ongoing SIR exercise.

However, election officials have clarified that not receiving a reply does not automatically mean a voter has been left out of the revision process. Temporary network issues, server delays, or technical glitches may sometimes prevent an immediate response. In such situations, voters are advised to contact their local Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the concerned election authorities to verify their status.

The EPIC number, printed on every Voter ID card, serves as the unique identification number for each registered elector. Officials have urged voters to enter the number carefully while sending the SMS, as even a minor typing error may lead to an incorrect response.

The Special Intensive Revision is a comprehensive exercise undertaken by the Election Commission to update electoral rolls by correcting voter details, enrolling newly eligible citizens, and removing duplicate, shifted, or deceased voters. Besides the SMS service, electors can also verify their records through the Voter Helpline App, the Voters' Service Portal, or by visiting the nearest election office. The Commission has encouraged all eligible voters to check their details well in advance to ensure a smooth and error-free electoral process.
