The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, aimed at creating a more accurate and reliable voter database ahead of future elections.

At a review meeting held in Vijayawada, ECI Secretaries Santosh Kumar Dubey and Naveen Kumar said the exercise would focus on enrolling all eligible voters while removing duplicate entries , deceased individuals, permanently shifted residents, and other ineligible names from the rolls.

The revision process will begin with preparatory activities from June 5 to June 14, followed by a door-to-door verification drive by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) between June 15 and July 14. A draft voter list will be published on July 21, and citizens will have until August 20 to submit claims and objections . The final electoral roll is scheduled to be released on September 22 after all applications are reviewed.

Dubey emphasized the need for transparency and stakeholder participation throughout the exercise. He directed BLOs to visit every household, distribute enumeration forms, and facilitate voter registrations, corrections, and deletions through the prescribed application forms. He also instructed officials to rationalize polling stations so that each booth serves no more than 1,200 voters.

Naveen Kumar urged election staff to complete the exercise with diligence and precision, stressing that even minor errors in voter records could affect the credibility of the electoral process. He called on officials to adhere strictly to timelines and ensure the preparation of a comprehensive and error-free electoral roll.

The Commission believes the revision drive will strengthen electoral integrity by ensuring that voter lists remain accurate, inclusive, and up to date.
