The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana , giving election officials and voters additional time to complete the verification process ahead of the publication of the state's updated voter list. The revised timeline comes in response to a request from the Telangana election machinery , with the Commission revising key deadlines to facilitate wider voter participation and improve the accuracy of the electoral rolls.

In a communication addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Telangana , the ECI said the ongoing door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now continue until August 3 . The Commission has also extended the deadline for submitting enumeration forms to the same date, allowing eligible voters more time to verify or update their details.

The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 10 , after which citizens can file claims and objections until September 9 . These provisions enable voters to seek corrections, request inclusion of eligible names, or raise objections to incorrect or duplicate entries in the electoral database.

The scrutiny of claims and objections, including the issuance of notices and hearings wherever necessary, will be carried out between August 10 and October 8 . Following the completion of this process, the final electoral roll will be released on October 12 , replacing the earlier target date of October 1 .

The Special Intensive Revision is one of the Election Commission's most comprehensive voter verification exercises, aimed at improving the quality of electoral rolls by removing duplicate, shifted or ineligible entries while ensuring that every eligible citizen is included. During the exercise, BLOs conduct house-to-house verification , assist voters in correcting personal details, and collect the required documentation.

The Commission has instructed state election officials to widely publicise the revised schedule through print, electronic and digital media so that voters are aware of the updated deadlines. It has also directed authorities to formally communicate the revised programme to recognised political parties .

Meanwhile, a similar extension has already been granted for the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Andhra Pradesh , where the deadline for voter verification has been extended until July 24 , reflecting the Commission's effort to ensure a comprehensive and error-free revision of electoral rolls across states.
