EC Extends SIR Timelines in Maharashtra, Delhi, Andhra, Haryana, Telangana and Nagaland
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the timelines for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in six states and the national capital, giving voters and election officials additional time to complete the exercise.
The revised schedule covers Maharashtra, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana and Nagaland. The decision follows requests from the respective Chief Electoral Officers, who sought more time to carry out the revision process.
In Maharashtra, the deadline for filing claims and objections has been extended from October 26 to November 13. The notice period and disposal of claims will now continue until November 25, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 30. The draft voter list was published on August 31.
In Delhi, voters can now submit claims and objections until November 25, instead of the earlier deadline of October 30. The disposal of claims has also been pushed back from November 30 to December 15. The final electoral roll will now be published on December 22.
The exercise has already been completed in 20 states and Union Territories, while the revision process is continuing in several others. The Election Commission is yet to announce the schedule for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In areas where SIR has been completed, the poll panel will conduct a Special Summary Revision (SSR) to update electoral rolls.
The SIR schedule has been extended several times in different states due to administrative and logistical reasons.
