
Early-morning collision leaves three passengers dead, 28 hurt in UP
At least three passengers were killed and 28 others injured after a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus rammed into a stationary truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in the early hours of Monday, police said.
The accident took place around 2:30 a.m. near Gahar Purwa village within the Bangarmau police station limits while the bus was travelling from Agra to Lucknow.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the bus driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel , causing the vehicle to crash into the truck that was parked on the roadside without warning indicators.
Station House Officer Akhilesh Pandey said the impact of the collision left several passengers trapped inside the bus, prompting an immediate rescue operation by local police and emergency services.
All injured passengers were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Bangarmau , where first aid was administered. Several critically injured victims were later referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment.
One of the deceased has been identified as Rajput (20) , while efforts are underway to establish the identities of the other two victims. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said a case has been registered in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway. No arrests have been made so far , though both the bus driver and the truck driver are being questioned to determine responsibility for the accident.
Traffic on the expressway was briefly disrupted and later restored after the damaged vehicles were removed.
