EAM Jaishankar launches BRICS 2026 logo and website as India prepares for chairship
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday unveiled the official logo and website for BRICS 2026 , marking India’s upcoming leadership of the multilateral forum, which was established in 2006. The grouping, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC), expanded over the years to include South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE, and Indonesia as full members, while several other nations hold partner status.
The new BRICS 2026 logo draws inspiration from the lotus , symbolising India’s deep-rooted heritage and resilience. Its multicoloured petals reflect the diversity of all member countries, while the Namaste gesture at the centre represents respect, collaboration, and a people-centric approach. The logo carries the tagline: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” underscoring India’s thematic priorities for the chairship.
Jaishankar outlined four broad priorities guiding India’s BRICS leadership, focusing on resilience , by strengthening institutions to withstand global shocks in areas such as agriculture, health, energy, disaster management, and supply chains; innovation , through leveraging new technologies and promoting start-ups and MSMEs to drive inclusive economic development; cooperation , by deepening political, economic, and cultural collaboration including people-to-people exchanges; and sustainability , by advancing climate action, clean energy, and fair development pathways. The newly launched BRICS website will serve as a central platform for information on meetings, initiatives, and outcomes during India’s Chairmanship, enhancing transparency and engagement among member nations and global stakeholders.
India’s chairship in 2026 is expected to strengthen BRICS’ global footprint, boost trade and economic cooperation among emerging economies, and promote strategic collaboration on global challenges, including sustainable development and technological innovation. With member nations collectively representing around 49.5 per cent of the world’s population, 40 per cent of global GDP, and nearly 26 per cent of global trade, India’s leadership is poised to reinforce BRICS as a key platform for shaping global economic and geopolitical agendas. This assumes added significance amid growing debates over US protectionist policies, supply-chain realignments, and efforts by some BRICS members to reduce dependence on the US dollar in cross-border trade, potentially positioning the 2026 summit as a crucial forum for discussions on alternative financial mechanisms and a more multipolar global order.
The BRICS forum has evolved over two decades from a grouping of four major emerging economies into a dynamic platform that fosters cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and sustainable development , while giving a collective voice to developing nations in global decision-making.
