In a major breakthrough against cross-border narcotics smuggling, security agencies seized nearly 10 kg of heroin valued at approximately ₹50 crore in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district after it was allegedly dropped by a drone from across the international border .

According to police officials, the consignment was airdropped near village 2 KND , located close to the India-Pakistan border, on Thursday. In the border districts of Rajasthan, “KND” refers to a local revenue and canal-based settlement code , commonly used to identify villages situated along irrigation networks such as the Indira Gandhi Canal system. The number “2” denotes a specific settlement cluster or segment within that coded area, helping authorities distinguish between multiple habitations under the same administrative block. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Rajasthan Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) launched a coordinated search operation in the area and swiftly secured the site.

During the operation, three suspects identified as Gurpreet Singh, Kirtan Singh, and Sonu Singh , all residents of Punjab, were intercepted while attempting to flee towards their home state. They were taken into custody on the spot. Two additional accused, Ranjit Singh and Ramesh , both locals from the region, were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the case.

Superintendent of Police Harishankar confirmed the arrests and the seizure, stating that preliminary findings indicate the presence of an interstate drug trafficking network . The network is believed to be using drones to transport narcotics across the border before distributing them to various parts of the country.

Officials said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the syndicate and to trace the supply chain. The incident highlights the growing use of drones for cross-border smuggling , posing new challenges for security agencies along India’s western frontier.
