
Drone Pilot Training for Transgenders Launched in Telangana
The Telangana government has taken another significant step towards inclusive development by launching special skill development programmes for the transgender community in Hyderabad. Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar inaugurated the programme on Saturday at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) in Gachibowli.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy , the government is committed to ensuring a dignified life for transgenders . He recalled that employment opportunities have already been provided to transgenders in sectors such as traffic management and Metro security .
The Minister announced that training will be offered in three key areas to promote self-employment : car driving, hotel management, and drone pilot training . The driving training will be conducted in collaboration with the Maruti Driving School .
Highlighting the growing importance of drone technology, he noted that drones are increasingly being used in photography, videography, agriculture (crop spraying), weddings, and other events . He expressed confidence that this training would enable transgenders to access opportunities in emerging technology sectors .
A total of 91 transgender beneficiaries will undergo the training, for which the government has allocated ₹17.72 lakh . The Minister said the government is also focusing on creating employment opportunities alongside skill training. “ We are recognising transgenders not just as voters, but as equal partners in the State’s development ,” he stated.
He urged members of the transgender community to make the best use of this opportunity, saying that their talent will shape their future and help them achieve greater heights in society.
Women and Child Welfare Department Secretary Anita Ramachandran , Director of Welfare for Persons with Disabilities and Transgenders Shailaja , NITHM Director Prof. V. Venkataramana , and State Aviation Academy CEO Captain S.N. Reddy , along with other senior officials, attended the programme.
