In a striking case that blends personal conflict with digital deception, a woman in Prayagraj used a fake social media identity to lure her estranged husband into a confrontation that ultimately led to his arrest.

Soni Tripathi , who had been living at her parental home for the past four years after allegedly being forced out of her matrimonial house, devised a plan to reconnect with her husband without revealing her identity. She created a fake Instagram profile and sent a request to Prabhudutt Tripathi , who accepted it without suspicion. What began as casual online interaction soon turned serious, with the man reportedly expressing his willingness to marry the woman behind the profile.

After gaining his trust, Soni suggested a meeting. While he had earlier proposed meeting at a hotel, she insisted on a public place, the Nagvasuki temple in Daraganj. On May 2, Prabhudutt arrived at the temple with a friend, unaware that he was walking into a carefully planned setup.

Soni, with her face covered, approached him and began a conversation. As he failed to recognize her, the moment of truth came when she revealed her identity. According to the complaint, the situation quickly escalated. The accused allegedly assaulted her , issued death threats , and tried to flee the scene.

However, Soni’s family members, who were nearby, intervened immediately and informed the police. Officers arrived promptly and took Prabhudutt into custody. A case has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , including charges of causing hurt , criminal intimidation , and breach of peace .
