The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 853 grams of cocaine , concealed in 50 capsules, from a woman travelling aboard the Hazrat Nizamuddin-KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express , officials said on Monday. The contraband is estimated to have an illicit market value of ₹4.26 crore .

Acting on specific intelligence inputs , officers of the DRI’s Nagpur Regional Unit under the Mumbai Zone intercepted the passenger at Nagpur railway station on April 12. Upon examination of her luggage, officials recovered 50 capsules containing a white powdery substance , which later tested positive for cocaine.

The seized narcotics fall under the ambit of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , under which the woman was arrested . She was subsequently produced before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody , officials added.

Authorities are now probing the source and intended destination of the consignment, suspecting the involvement of a wider drug trafficking network operating through rail routes.

The latest seizure comes amid a series of anti-narcotics operations carried out by DRI Nagpur in recent months. In December 2025 , officials had busted a mephedrone manufacturing unit in Karanja Ghadge village in Wardha district , while large quantities of ganja were seized in separate operations in January and February this year.

Officials said such sustained enforcement efforts underscore the agency’s focus on curbing drug trafficking networks and preventing the use of public transport systems for the illegal movement of narcotics.
