
DRI Arrests Two in Twin Mumbai Airport Drug Busts, Cocaine Worth Rs 13.2 Crore Seized
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized cocaine worth over Rs 13 crore in two separate operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, DRI officials intercepted a woman passenger arriving from Addis Ababa and recovered 1.575 kg of liquid cocaine concealed in eight pouches hidden inside her baggage. Officials said the seized narcotic substance is estimated to be worth Rs 7.875 crore in the illegal market.
In another operation at the airport, DRI officials apprehended an African male passenger who was suspected of internally concealing narcotics. During medical examination and monitoring, the passenger purged 70 cocaine-filled capsules , leading to the recovery of 1.084 kg of cocaine valued at approximately Rs 5.42 crore .
According to officials, the total seizure from the two operations stands at 2.659 kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of Rs 13.295 crore .
Both accused have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Officials said further investigations are underway to trace the wider international drug trafficking network linked to the consignments.
The seizures come amid heightened surveillance by central enforcement agencies at major international airports to curb narcotics smuggling routes operating through African and West Asian transit hubs.
