‘Dragon’ completes one year, Ashwath Marimuthu teases second collaboration

The Tamil comedy-drama Dragon completed one year since its release on February 21, with renewed buzz around a potential sequel following celebratory posts from the film’s team. Starring Pradeep Ranganathan , the film was also released in Telugu and went on to emerge as a major box-office success despite receiving mixed critical reviews.

Marking the anniversary, director Ashwath Marimuthu shared a heartfelt note on social media, calling his collaboration with Pradeep a “blast” and praising the actor as a self-made star. He hinted at a reunion by stating, “WE WILL COME BACK ‘2’nd TIME,” sparking speculation about a sequel. Production house AGS Entertainment and the film’s team also joined in celebrating the milestone.

Released in 2025, Dragon follows the journey of Raghavan, a top-ranking college student dealing with heartbreak, scams and self-discovery amid youthful romance and campus life. While critics were divided on the narrative, audiences embraced the film’s energetic presentation, humour and popular soundtrack, including the chartbuster Kathara Kathara . The film reportedly collected around ₹152 crore worldwide against a ₹35 crore budget.

Ashwath Marimuthu, who rose to prominence with Oh My Kadavule , also made his mark in Telugu cinema by directing its remake Ori Devuda , starring Vishwak Sen . The romantic fantasy drama received a positive response, further establishing the director’s cross-industry appeal.

Actress Kayadu Lohar added to the anniversary celebrations by sharing nostalgic pictures from Dragon . Currently streaming on Netflix , the film continues to attract viewers a year after its release, with sequel speculation keeping fan interest alive.
