Dr Shenoy achieves milestone, performing 13 robotic hernia surgeries to set world record

Dr Ganesh Shenoy, Director of Surgical Gastroenterology and Robotic Surgery at Kauvery Hospital, Electronic City, Bengaluru, has been recognised for creating a world record by performing 13 robotic hernia surgeries in a single day using one Da Vinci surgical system. The feat has been described as a reflection of his surgical precision, consistent performance, and advanced command over robotic-assisted technology.

It was conveyed that the achievement went beyond the numerical milestone, highlighting the possibilities that emerge when medical expertise is paired with state-of-the-art technology. Each of the 13 patients was said to have received personalised care with complete focus on safety, and all surgeries were reported to have concluded without errors or complications. Robotic assistance was noted as a key factor, as it enabled superior precision and significantly reduced surgeon fatigue, an outcome that would have been difficult to achieve with traditional laparoscopy. It was also emphasised that patient safety and optimal recovery remained the top priorities throughout the series of procedures.

The surgical marathon was observed by Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar, Former President of the Hernia Society of India, who happened to be visiting the hospital. His presence was said to have reinforced the credibility of the accomplishment, confirming that the surgeries were executed with high levels of accuracy, efficiency, and safety. Dr Bhandarkar remarked that the scale and precision of the procedures carried out in a single day reflected exceptional dedication and technical capability. He noted that the reduced fatigue offered by robotic systems made such a performance possible, something that would have been extremely challenging using conventional laparoscopic methods.

The record has also been acknowledged by Intuitive, the manufacturer of the da Vinci robotic platform. The company supported the effort through instrumentation, workflow guidance, and quick system turnaround that allowed smooth transitions between cases. Rohit Mahajan, Vice President and General Manager of Intuitive India, stated that the achievement illustrated how well-coordinated surgical teams, combined with advanced robotic technology, could enhance surgical throughput and maintain consistent patient outcomes. He added that Kauvery Hospital’s focus on staff training and efficient workflow planning demonstrated how access to high-quality surgical care could be expanded.
