Double Life Exposed: Software Professional Arrested in 26 Burglary Cases
A software professional leading a double life was arrested by Visakhapatnam police for his alleged involvement in a series of house burglaries across the city.
The accused has been identified as Achi Mahesh Reddy alias Sunny , a native of Kakinada, who was found to be involved in 26 house thefts in different parts of Visakhapatnam.
Police recovered gold and silver ornaments worth about ₹25 lakh from the accused and also seized a BMW car allegedly purchased using the stolen money. The burglaries, reported after the Sankranti festival, had created panic among residents in areas including Gajuwaka, Arilova, Malkapuram, Pendurthi and Duvvada .
DCP (Crimes) K. Latha Madhuri mentioned he was suspected to have conducted reconnaissance of target homes in the daytime, though the accused has not admitted to that and police did not publicly present direct proof of this. Despite taking precautions to avoid leaving forensic evidence, police tracked him using CCTV footage and arrested him in the Gajuwaka area.
The case came to light on October 14, 2025 , after a Gajuwaka resident reported a burglary while his family was away. Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , and subsequent investigation linked the accused to 26 similar offences.
Police records show that Achhi Mahesh Reddy was first caught committing theft at around age 15 and was sent to a juvenile home at that time after breaking into houses in the PM Palem area of Visakhapatnam. Though he later secured a software job in Hyderabad, he allegedly returned to crime in pursuit of a lavish lifestyle. In total, about 1,080 grams of gold and 6,333 grams of silver were stolen in the cases.
Authorities have initiated steps to open a rowdy sheet against him and placed the accused under preventive detention for one year . Police are also examining the possible role of his mother in the crimes, while clarifying that the owner of the two-wheeler used had no connection. Officials said the recovered valuables would be returned to the victims soon.
