Double cyclone threat for AP

Rainfall continues to trouble the Telugu states, and there seems to be no immediate relief. Meteorologists warn that current conditions over the Bay of Bengal are likely to intensify, bringing another spell of rain, especially to Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA), a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to trigger moderate showers across several districts. Meanwhile, a severe cyclonic circulation persists over the Malacca Strait and is slowly moving in a west-northwest direction, with the potential to strengthen into a cyclone.

Officials explain that the low-pressure system extending across the southwest Bay of Bengal, southern Sri Lanka, and the adjoining Indian Ocean may intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours. It could further develop into a cyclonic storm within the following 24 hours.

Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea from Thursday onwards. Those already at sea have been urged to return immediately. Due to these evolving weather systems, moderate rainfall is expected at isolated places across Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema from Saturday to Tuesday (November 29 to December 2). Farmers have also been cautioned to take necessary precautions in agricultural activities.

The Bay of Bengal has turned turbulent with multiple weather disturbances - successive low-pressure zones, cyclonic circulations, and the possibility of a cyclone forming this week. This has significantly altered weather patterns in the Telugu states.

While rain has already begun in Andhra Pradesh, temperatures in Telangana have noticeably increased, easing the chilly conditions. Weather experts suggest that a new system - likely to intensify into Cyclone 'Senyaru' this week - may further increase rainfall activity in the region.
