Doctors confirm Sonia Gandhi stable, under treatment

Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is responding well to treatment and continues to remain under medical observation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi , hospital authorities said on Thursday, offering an update on her health.

The 79 year old Congress leader , who was admitted late on the night of March 24 after developing a fever, is being treated for a systemic infection . Doctors said the treatment is showing positive results.

Hospital chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop said Gandhi is currently undergoing antibiotic therapy and is recovering steadily under the supervision of a team of senior doctors.

“She is responding well to the treatment and remains under the care of specialists who are closely monitoring her condition,” he said.

Sources at the hospital said Gandhi’s condition is stable and not considered serious . However, doctors have decided to keep her under observation for a few more days as a precautionary measure .

She was admitted at around 10.22 pm on Tuesday after she complained of fever, with initial reports suggesting the illness may have been linked to a seasonal weather change .

The latest update from the hospital has brought relief to party leaders and supporters who had expressed concern after news of her hospitalisation emerged earlier this week.

Doctors are expected to continue monitoring her recovery before taking a call on her discharge.
