DMK Distributed Money, Gold Coins To Voters, Alleges AIADMK Leader Inbadurai
AIADMK leader I.S. Inbadurai on Monday alleged that the ruling DMK engaged in electoral malpractices in several constituencies during the Assembly elections held on April 23, and urged the Election Commission of India to take appropriate action.
Addressing reporters, the Rajya Sabha MP alleged that the DMK had “distributed money to bribe voters” , claiming that multiple irregularities were reported from constituencies including Coimbatore and Karur .
“In Coimbatore South constituency, the DMK candidate had distributed gold coins to voters ,” he alleged, adding that such practices undermined the fairness of the electoral process.
Inbadurai said the AIADMK had already filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission regarding the alleged violations and demanded swift action against those responsible.
Expressing confidence in his party’s prospects, he asserted that the AIADMK would win the elections and form the government, stating that party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami would become the next Chief Minister.
He also claimed that the people of Tamil Nadu were seeking a “change of government” , and described the AIADMK as the “only saviour” of the state’s interests.
Praising former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa , Inbadurai called her an “unmatched leader in Indian political history,” highlighting her contributions to governance, women’s empowerment, and the introduction of 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies , along with the establishment of all-women police stations.
The 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly had gone to polls on April 23, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4, when the results will be declared on the same day.
The DMK has fielded V. Senthil Balaji in the Coimbatore South constituency, as the ruling party seeks to retain power, while the AIADMK aims to return to office after five years in opposition.
