Discrimination Against Christians Rises Under Coalition Rule, Alleges YSRCP

The YSR Congress Party has intensified its criticism of the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh, accusing it of fostering caste , religious discrimination across the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Tadepalli, party spokesperson and former MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu alleged that individuals occupying constitutional positions were exhibiting discriminatory attitudes toward Dalits and Christians, posing a serious threat to democratic principles .

He flagged recent controversies involving Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatrudu and Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju , describing them as alarming. According to him, such incidents have hurt the sentiments of marginalised communities . He questioned the silence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu , arguing that the lack of response raises concerns about the government’s stance.

Highlighting the previous administration under Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy , Sudhakar Babu said it had placed strong emphasis on social justice . He noted that welfare initiatives and key political positions were extended to Dalits and Christians, reflecting what he described as an inclusive governance approach. He also pointed to the installation of an Ambedkar statue in Vijayawada as a testament to that commitment.

The YSRCP leader further alleged that law and order in the state has deteriorated, citing reported incidents of violence against Dalits in regions such as Kuppam and Railway Koduru. He accused ruling party members of making caste-based remarks without facing strict action.

Calling for clarity, he urged the Chief Minister to spell out his position on granting Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians. Participation in events like Christmas alone, he said, was insufficient without concrete measures to address the issues faced by these communities.

He concluded by asserting that marginalised sections continue to stand by Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership and advised the current leadership against drawing comparisons with the former regime.
