‘Dhurandhar’ OTT storm: Millions can’t get enough!
The Dhurandhar phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down. After a spectacular theatrical run that kept audiences hooked for nearly two months since its release on December 5th, the Aditya Dhar directorial has now stormed the digital world following its Netflix debut two weeks ago.
According to the data, the espionage thriller raked in 7.6 million views during its opening weekend on the streaming platform, emerging as the most viewed non-English film globally . The numbers revealed that Dhurandhar topped Netflix’s Top 10 Movies list not only in India but also in Pakistan , cementing its cross-border appeal.
The momentum didn’t stop there. In its second week on OTT, the film saw a rise in viewership with over 8 million streams , bringing the two-week total close to 16 million views . Compared to recent pan-India hits like Pushpa 2 and Kalki , Dhurandhar has comfortably surpassed them in early digital viewership, marking a record achievement for a film already celebrated for its glorious 50-day theatrical run domestically and overseas.
The overwhelming response on OTT has also challenged a longstanding trade belief, that films with extended theatrical runs often struggle to find traction online. Dhurandhar’s digital triumph proves that audiences are just as enthusiastic about revisiting theatrical hits on streaming platforms.
Set in Lyari town , the film follows covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of major historical terror events, including the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks .
The excitement is now building for the sequel, Dhurandhar - The Revenge , slated for release in theatres on March 19th . Given the tremendous anticipation, the second installment is expected to make a thunderous debut at the box office.
