Devotees offer ‘Tenshuk’ prayers for Dalai Lama’s long life in Dharamshala
A serene and devotional atmosphere prevailed in McLeod Ganj on Wednesday as devotees, monks and supporters gathered to offer prayers for the long life of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
The ceremony was held at the Theckchen Choeling Temple, located within the headquarters of the Central Tibetan Administration. The event was conducted in the presence of the Dalai Lama , who witnessed the prayers and later blessed hundreds of devotees gathered at the temple complex.
The gathering held special significance as 2026 marks the 90th year of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso , whose teachings of compassion and non-violence continue to inspire followers around the world.
The long-life prayer ceremony, known in Tibetan tradition as “Tenshuk” long-life prayer , was organised by the Core Group for the Tibetan Cause–India along with 24 Tibet Support Groups comprising Indian supporters of Tibet. Devotees offered prayers in both Hindi and Tibetan, seeking blessings for the spiritual leader’s long life and continued guidance.
Monks from Namgyal Monastery conducted sacred rituals, including the mandala offering ceremony , symbolising prayers for longevity and spiritual well-being. The rhythmic chanting of monks and the fragrance of incense created a deeply contemplative atmosphere.
Former Arunachal Pradesh minister Rinchin Khandu Khrimey, national convenor of the Core Group for the Tibetan Cause–India, said the ceremony was a humble spiritual offering for the Dalai Lama and for a future where truth and compassion prevail for Tibet and its people.
During the event, representatives presented the spiritual leader with the “Karuna Ratna” (Jewel of Compassion) in recognition of his lifelong message of peace and humanity.
The ceremony followed the observance of the Tibetan National Uprising Day on Tuesday, when Tibetan groups held commemorations in Dharamshala and protests near the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.
