Development Confined to Three Districts, Alleges BJP MLA Rakesh Reddy

BJP Armur MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy on Friday accused the Telangana government of concentrating development and financial allocations in only a few districts, while several other parts of the state continued to face unmet infrastructure and public needs.

Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Assembly, Rakesh Reddy questioned the government over regional disparities in development and the distribution of funds. He said Telangana was formed on the promise of ensuring a fair share of water, funds and jobs, but alleged that development was once again becoming concentrated in a limited number of areas.

Rakesh Reddy said Congress leaders had earlier criticised the previous BRS government for concentrating development in areas such as Gajwel, Siddipet and Sircilla. He alleged that a similar pattern was now emerging under the Congress government, with greater attention being given to three districts while the concerns of people in the remaining districts were being overlooked.

The BJP MLA urged the government to review the development needs of his Armur constituency and sanction adequate funds for pending works. He appealed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to conduct a special review of the constituency and address its infrastructure and development requirements.

Rakesh Reddy also referred to the financial allocations made to the Chief Minister's Kodangal constituency, as well as to Madhira, and said these allocations demonstrated how elected representatives could secure substantial funds for their constituencies. He cited figures of Rs 2,900 crore and Rs 4,600 crore in allocations to Kodangal at different stages and said other constituencies should also receive comparable attention based on their requirements.

He further claimed that ruling party legislators were aware of disparities between regions but were unable to raise the issue openly in the Assembly. As an Opposition MLA, he said, he was using the legislature to highlight public concerns.

Questioning why regional discrimination should continue in a state that was itself formed after a prolonged movement against perceived discrimination, Rakesh Reddy called for equitable allocation of funds and balanced development across Telangana.
