A Deputy Executive Engineer working at Osmania University was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of ₹6,000 on Tuesday.

The officer, part of the university’s Building Division, had demanded a total of ₹11,000. The bribe was reportedly taken from a complainant seeking the release of bills worth ₹7.37 lakh for renovation work at Maneru Boys Hostel within the university campus. The ACB said the bribe was also intended to ensure that future contract works on the campus faced no obstacles.

The accused had allegedly earlier accepted ₹5,000 through digital payment, and the ACB recovered the additional ₹6,000 during the sting operation. Officials noted that the officer “misused his position to obtain unlawful gains” and acted without integrity.

The case is currently under investigation. The incident has once again highlighted the need for strict adherence to transparency and accountability in government dealings, including those at educational institutions like Osmania University.
