Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Orders Probe into Elephant’s Death by Electrocution
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Forest and Environment Minister Pawan Kalyan has expressed grief over the death of a male elephant due to electrocution near Gubbalavaripalli in Chittoor district and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
He directed forest officials to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit a detailed report on the circumstances that led to the elephant’s death. He also called for a detailed examination of how electric wires had been installed in areas frequented by wildlife.
Pawan Kalyan stressed that strict action must be taken against those responsible if the investigation establishes that electric wires were deliberately laid along elephant movement corridors to harm the animals.
The Deputy Chief Minister warned against the illegal installation of electric fencing along forest boundaries in the name of protecting agricultural crops. He made it clear that such practices should not be tolerated, as they pose a serious threat to wildlife.
He instructed officials to initiate action against those involved in installing illegal electric fences under the provisions of wildlife protection laws. He also emphasised the need to strengthen measures to safeguard wild animals and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by unauthorised electrical installations in areas where wild animals move between forests and nearby agricultural lands. The investigation is expected to establish how the electric wires were installed and whether negligence or deliberate action contributed to the elephant’s death.
