Delivery Agent Jumps Into Freezing Pit to Save Techie in Greater Noida, Rescue Teams Arrive Late

A delivery agent emerged as a Good Samaritan in Greater Noida’s Sector 150 after a 27-year-old software engineer’s SUV plunged into a water-filled construction pit in dense fog, but despite desperate efforts, the victim could not be saved. The accident reportedly took place late Friday night when the vehicle crashed through a damaged boundary wall and fell into a 20+ feet deep flooded excavation , dug for the basement of an under-construction project .

Moninder, a delivery agent who reached the spot soon after the crash, said he saw rescuers struggling and jumped into the pit himself in an attempt to help. He claimed the victim was initially seen standing on the roof of the car and waving a mobile phone torch to signal passers-by for help. Moninder alleged rescue workers hesitated due to cold water , near-zero visibility , and iron rods at the site, and said he searched in the water for nearly 30 minutes using a rope tied around his waist.

Police denied negligence and said teams launched an intensive rescue operation using a crane , ladder , makeshift boat , and searchlights , but fog and darkness made visibility almost impossible. Authorities said information was received around 12:15 am , and after an over five-hour search operation , the body was recovered with support from the fire department , SDRF , NDRF , and local police.

The victim’s father recalled his last phone call, saying the engineer called in panic and said his car had fallen into a drain, pleading for immediate help. He demanded accountability, claiming a lack of expert divers and safety measures may have contributed to the tragedy. Following the incident, reports say an FIR was filed against developers/builders , while local residents alleged the spot had seen repeated accidents due to poor barricading and inadequate warning signs.
