Delhi’s Dhrupad Samaroh to host sitar maestro Zunain Khan and vocalist Uday Mallick

The 33rd Pandit Radha Krishna and Pandit Karta Ram Mallick National Dhrupad Samaroh will bring together some of the finest names in Indian classical music, featuring sitar exponent Zunain Khan and renowned Dhrupad vocalist Uday Kumar Mallick .

Organised by the Dhrupad Academy Delhi, the annual festival will begin on January 29 at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre. The opening evening will feature a pakhawaj tabla jugalbandi by Mohan Shyam Sharma and Ravindra Yavagal , followed by vocal recital by Mahalakshmi Shenoy and a flute performance by Nityanand Haldipur .

The highlight of the second day will be a sitar recital by Zunain Khan, a fifth generation representative of the Indore Beenkar Gharana and the torchbearer of the distinctive Jafferkhani Baaj, a style developed by his father and guru Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan. The technique is known for its complex rhythmic patterns and intricate left hand movements.

The festival will conclude with a Dhrupad performance by Uday Kumar Mallick of the Darbhanga gharana, promising a soulful end to the two day celebration of classical music.
