A brutal murder in New Delhi’s Gandhi Vihar has sent shockwaves nationwide, with Delhi Police unraveling an elaborate plot behind the death of 32-year-old UPSC aspirant Ramkesh Meena. In the latest developments, all three accused including Meena’s live-in partner Amrita Chauhan (21), her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap, and their associate Sandeep Kumar remain in police custody as investigators continue to recover digital evidence and piece together the chilling sequence of events.

How The Crime Unfolded & the Latest on the Investigation Sources reveal that Amrita, a Forensic Science student and an avid watcher of crime series, used her academic knowledge to attempt a meticulous cover-up. The trio plotted Meena’s murder, driven primarily by his possession of explicit videos recorded during the couple’s live-in relationship, a detail now confirmed as the central motive. Amrita confided in Sumit about the videos, which sparked the plan to kill Meena in a way that would mimic a tragic fire accident. Drawing on her forensic know-how and Sumit’s LPG distribution background, they staged the crime: first by strangling Meena, then pouring ghee and wine on his body, and finally, tampering with the gas cylinder to trigger a minor blast, attempting to erase evidence.

CCTV cameras and phone location records were critical in cracking the case, capturing masked figures entering the flat and Amrita’s presence at the crime scene despite attempts to conceal her involvement. Acting on her confession, police recovered incriminating evidence including the hard disk containing the explicit footage, mobile phones, and other belongings - crucial for both motive confirmation and case progress.

Investigators Say Tech Knowledge & Crime Shows Influenced the Plot Significantly, police note that inspiration for the cover-up came from popular web series and real-crime documentaries, which Amrita reportedly watched regularly. Her grasp of forensic procedures helped them try to avoid detection though ironically, it may have left behind more technical clues, making digital evidence recovery and crime scene analysis easier for police.

Legal Progress and What’s Next All three accused have confessed during interrogation and face charges under sections relating to murder, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence. Inspector Pankaj Tomar of Timarpur Police Station leads the probe, leveraging both technical surveillance and local intelligence as fresh leads emerge. Police continue to analyze digital storage devices and corroborate timelines, with new details expected over the coming weeks as forensic analysis progresses.

This incident has sparked urgent calls for greater awareness around digital privacy and relationship safety. Experts suggest that both young adults and educational institutions need stronger counseling on the dangers of explicit content and the risks of sharing personal information, especially as technology becomes central to personal interactions. The case also highlights how digital forensics and surveillance are now pivotal in solving crimes, serving as cautionary examples for those who might seek to leverage technology for illegal purposes.
