The national capital is set to host its first-ever International Film Festival, Delhi (IFFD) 2026 , bringing together a rich blend of global and regional cinema from March 25 to 31 at Bharat Mandapam. Announcing the event, Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said the week-long festival will showcase a diverse lineup of films across multiple Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Haryanvi, Bengali , and cinema from the North-East , alongside a wide range of international entries.

The festival has drawn an overwhelming response, with over 2,000 submissions from across the world , out of which 140 films have been shortlisted for screening. The selected films span various genres such as feature films, documentaries, short films, and independent cinema , reflecting both established filmmakers and emerging voices.

Officials said the festival aims to highlight the vibrancy of India's regional storytelling traditions while also creating a platform for cross-cultural exchange through international cinema. The curated selection is expected to include socially relevant narratives, experimental works, and commercially successful films that represent contemporary cinematic trends.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta , in a statement, said the initiative is designed to promote creativity, generate opportunities for filmmakers, and position Delhi as a global cultural hub . She added that the festival would not only celebrate cinema but also foster collaboration within the creative industry.

Mishra noted that the government plans to make the festival an annual event , strengthening Delhi’s identity as a centre for art and culture. He added that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting the “orange economy” , focusing on the growth of creative industries and supporting emerging talent.

Apart from film screenings, the festival is also expected to feature interactive sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities for filmmakers, producers, and audiences. Organisers believe the event will showcase Delhi’s world-class infrastructure for hosting international events and boost its appeal as a preferred destination for film production. With its expansive lineup and global participation, IFFD 2026 is poised to mark a significant milestone in Delhi’s cultural calendar.
