Delhi SIR: Over 1 Lakh Voter Enrolment Applications Cleared, 47.5 Lakh Names Face Reverification
Delhi’s electoral roll revision has entered a crucial phase, with officials disposing of around 1.15 lakh Form 6 applications since August 31, even as more than 4.56 lakh applications seeking voter enrolment have been received.
According to officials, 4,56,913 Form 6 applications were received up to October 20. Form 6 allows eligible citizens, including first-time voters and those whose names are missing from electoral rolls, to seek enrolment.
The draft electoral rolls published on August 31 listed 97.53 lakh electors, down from 1.45 crore before the revision. Around 47.5 lakh names were removed under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) categories.
Of these, approximately 43.3 lakh were classified as absent or permanently shifted, 2.82 lakh as deceased and 1.41 lakh as duplicate voters. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer has directed officials to reverify all 47.5 lakh entries through door-to-door visits by booth-level officers (BLOs).
Verification rates vary considerably across constituencies. Okhla recorded verification of 54.6% of existing electors, while R K Puram and Kasturba Nagar recorded 44.5% and 44%, respectively. Seelampur recorded 76.6%, while Rohini reported 83%, Shakur Basti 81% and Mangolpuri 78%.
Officials have also issued 33.12 lakh notices over records that could not be matched with the 2002 electoral rolls or contained logical discrepancies. The Election Commission has said more than 80% of these cases have been resolved.
Special camps are being organised, while BLOs are visiting households to collect supporting documents. Officials have urged eligible citizens to submit applications by October 30. From October 31 to November 30, the focus will be on disposing of applications.
Meanwhile, 14,911 Form 7 applications seeking deletion of names and 93,036 Form 8 applications for corrections and other permitted changes were received between August 31 and October 20.
The final electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on December 4. Officials have clarified that eligible citizens whose Form 6 applications are rejected after October 30 can still apply through the continuous updation process, subject to Election Commission guidelines.
