

Delhi Set To Host Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026
Delhi will host the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 at the Thyagraj Stadium , with participation expected from more than 35 countries , Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Wednesday.
The championship will be held from July 27 to August 2 , and is being jointly organised by the Delhi Government and the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) .
Announcing the event at the Delhi Secretariat, Gupta said the national capital has a strong tradition of hosting international sporting events and that the upcoming championship would further enhance Delhi’s standing on the global sports map .
She said, “The Delhi government is committed to providing world-class infrastructure , smooth arrangements, and an excellent sporting environment for both players and spectators.”
Officials said players from countries including England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, Wales, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago , among others, are expected to participate in the tournament.
The seven-day championship will feature competitions across multiple categories, with the finals scheduled for August 2 . Detailed information on ticketing, volunteer participation and match schedules will be released later, officials added.
Gupta said the Thyagraj Stadium will serve as the primary venue for both competition and ceremonial events. She added that the event will showcase Delhi’s modern sports infrastructure, organisational capacity and sporting culture at an international level.
She further noted that the government is working to strengthen sports infrastructure and promote global sporting events in alignment with the Vision 2036 Olympic mission , aiming to position Delhi as a leading sports destination.
Delhi Education and Sports Minister Ashish Sood said hosting the championship is a significant step towards establishing the city as India’s “sports capital” .He said such international events will not only enhance Delhi’s global sporting identity but also encourage greater youth participation in sports across the capital.
Sood added that the tournament will also provide a valuable platform for emerging Indian table tennis players to compete against international talent and expressed confidence in a strong performance by the Indian team on home soil.
