Delhi schools introduce literacy & numeracy hour

Delhi government schools are introducing a new program called Nipun Sankalp to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy for students in Classes II to VIII. This initiative aims to ensure that every child develops essential skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.

As part of the program, schools will add a dedicated daily literacy-numeracy period to their timetables. For Classes II to V, all students will participate together, while Classes VI to VIII will have targeted sessions for those needing extra support. These sessions may sometimes be held during morning assemblies. Teachers will apply strategies like buddy pairs, small group activities, and rotational assistance to cater to individual learning needs.

To assess the current proficiency levels, baseline assessments in Hindi, English, and Mathematics will be conducted until September 19. Teachers will evaluate the tests and upload the results digitally, with support from DIET (District Institute of Education and Training) trainees. Based on these assessments, students requiring additional help will be identified and provided with appropriate interventions.

The program also includes weekly subject-wise sessions focusing on Hindi, English, and Mathematics, ensuring that each subject receives equal attention. For Class I students, the existing "Vidyarambh" package will continue until September.
