Delhi red fort blast: NIA alleges Amir Rashid Ali helped Umar Un Nabi, provides 10-day custody

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has told a Delhi court that Amir Rashid Ali played a direct role in the November 10 Red Fort blast, allegedly providing a safe house to suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi and assisting him in assembling the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) used in the attack.

In a closed court hearing, the NIA sought 10 days custody of Amir to take him to Jammu and Kashmir for further investigation. The agency claimed that Amir was not only associated with Umar but actively participated in the terror conspiracy, providing logistical support and procuring materials necessary for the bombing.

According to the NIA, Amir’s involvement in planning and facilitating the attack was carried out with “precision and intensity” to create panic among the public. The agency further alleged that his actions threatened the unity, security, and sovereignty of India.

The court, presided over by Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna, granted the NIA the requested 10-day remand. Amir Rashid Ali was arrested on Sunday and produced before the court on Monday.

The case has been registered under Section 103 and Section 113(2)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. If proven guilty, Amir could face life imprisonment or the death penalty, heavy fines, and restrictions on civil rights, given the gravity of the charges.

The NIA continues to investigate the blast that occurred near the Red Fort and the adjacent metro station, examining the possibility of additional accomplices and cross-border links in the terror conspiracy.
