Delhi Records Minimum Temperature of 20°C as AQI Enters Moderate Category
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while the city’s air quality index (AQI) stood at 134, placing it in the moderate category, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The Safdarjung weather station, considered representative of the capital’s weather, recorded a minimum temperature of 20°C, which was 0.6 degrees higher than Friday’s 19.4°C. The maximum temperature for Saturday was forecast to remain between 31°C and 33°C.
Among other monitoring stations, Ayanagar recorded a minimum of 19.1°C, while Palam registered 19.2°C and Lodhi Road recorded 19.3°C, according to IMD data.
The meteorological department forecast mostly clear skies over the next few days, with daytime temperatures expected to remain around 31–33°C. Minimum temperatures were likely to hover near 19–20°C.
Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 134 at 9 am on Saturday, compared with the 24-hour average of 90, classified as satisfactory, at 4 pm on Friday. The two readings fall into different air-quality categories, although they represent different measurement periods.
Under CPCB standards, an AQI between 0 and 50 is classified as good, 51–100 as satisfactory, 101–200 as moderate, 201–300 as poor, 301–400 as very poor and 401–500 as severe.
Air quality levels also vary across monitoring locations. Previously reported station-level readings showed an AQI of 69 at Ashok Vihar and 143 at Vivek Vihar, while Pusa and RK Puram recorded readings above 120. These figures relate to earlier reported observations and do not establish the air quality at every station on Saturday morning.
The latest readings place Delhi’s air quality in the moderate category, while the IMD’s forecast indicates that mostly clear weather is likely to continue over the coming days.
