The Delhi Police on Monday destroyed 1,452 kg of seized narcotic substances valued at around ₹897 crore in the international market as part of its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks. The destruction was carried out during the 10th mega drug disposal programme at a waste disposal facility on GT Karnal Road, Delhi, in the presence of senior police officials.

The operation was attended by Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) H G S Dhaliwal along with other senior officers. The seized contraband, collected from various cases registered by the Delhi Police, included a large quantity of synthetic and traditional narcotics as well as psychotropic substances.

According to officials, the destroyed drugs comprised around 1,010 kg of methamphetamine, 135 kg of heroin, 62 kg of charas, 37 kg of ganja, 16 kg of methaqualone, 91 kg of poppy straw, and 70 kg of phenylpropanone. The disposal also included over 15 lakh tramadol tablets and more than 36,000 bottles of codeine syrup, among other banned substances.

The latest drive is part of the Delhi Police’s continued efforts to remove seized narcotics from circulation and target the illegal drug supply chain. Since December 2022, the force has conducted 10 such destruction programmes, disposing of nearly 49,663 kg of narcotic substances with an estimated international value of ₹14,799 crore.

Addressing the programme, H G Dhaliwal said the initiative was not limited to destroying seized drugs but was aimed at dismantling the entire ecosystem supporting narcotics trafficking. He highlighted that such measures were crucial in weakening organised networks involved in the illegal trade.

The Delhi Police said the systematic disposal of seized narcotics reflects its commitment to strengthening enforcement measures and curbing the spread of drug abuse across the national capital.
