The Delhi Traffic Police has intensified enforcement against the use of forged No-Entry Permits (NEPs) by commercial vehicles, registering cases and launching a wider probe into suspected permit rackets across the national capital.

According to officials, two cases have been registered at police stations in Gokulpuri and Wazirabad after traffic personnel intercepted vehicles operating with fake permissions allegedly procured through unauthorised agents. The violations were detected over the past fortnight in the Eastern and Central traffic ranges.

Authorities have seized the vehicles involved and initiated investigations to trace networks engaged in the preparation and circulation of counterfeit permits and stickers. Senior officers indicated that efforts are underway to identify intermediaries facilitating the illegal issuance of such documents.

NEPs are issued to vehicles engaged in essential services, allowing them to operate during restricted hours or in no-entry zones. These include transport of perishable goods such as milk, fruits, vegetables and food grains, as well as medical supplies, fuel distribution and public utility operations covering civic agencies, metro services, electricity and telecommunications.

Officials clarified that permits are granted under three categories annual, temporary and short-term each subject to specific conditions related to vehicle type, fuel norms, routes and operational timings. While annual and temporary permits are issued exclusively through an official online system, short-term permits are granted offline by designated traffic authorities.

The police have reiterated that possession or use of fake NEPs constitutes a serious offence. Offenders may face criminal prosecution, seizure of vehicles and blacklisting from future permit issuance.

The crackdown is part of broader efforts to tighten monitoring of commercial vehicle movement and curb illegal practices that undermine traffic regulations and public safety in the capital.
