Delhi Police Cancels Routine Leaves Amid Rising Law and Order Concerns

In a move aimed at ensuring maximum operational readiness, Delhi Police has suspended all routine leave for its personnel with immediate effect, citing the prevailing law and order situation in the national capital. The directive, issued by the Police Headquarters, will remain in force until further orders.

According to police sources, the order has been circulated to all district Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Indira Gandhi International Airport units, and other senior officials to ensure uniform implementation across the force.

Under the new instructions, casual leave, earned leave, and other routine leave categories have been suspended. Only genuine emergency leave will be considered, subject to strict verification and approval by the competent authority.

The communication also places restrictions on officers and personnel attending training programmes or professional courses. Participation in any such programme will now require prior approval from the Commissioner of Police, ensuring that manpower remains available for deployment whenever required.

The order directs all DCPs to enforce the instructions meticulously and ensure that the police force remains fully prepared to respond to any security challenge. Officials said the measures are intended to maintain adequate personnel strength across key locations in the city.

The decision comes amid heightened tensions following large-scale protests in Delhi led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). Demonstrators have been demanding reforms in the examination system and seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak issue.

On July 20, thousands of protesters assembled at Jantar Mantar for the 'Sansad Chalo' march despite heavy security arrangements. When sections of the crowd attempted to move towards Parliament during the opening day of the Monsoon Session, police used lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse them. The clashes left several protesters and police personnel injured, prompting authorities to strengthen preparedness and maintain heightened vigilance across the capital.
