Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a self-styled ‘baba’ in connection with the deaths of three people whose bodies were found inside a locked car near the Peeragarhi flyover, marking the first arrest in the case.

The accused, identified as Kamaruddin , is described by police as a self-styled godman and tantric practitioner . Investigators say he often claimed supernatural powers and lured people with promises of quick or multiplied money through occult or tantric rituals . Despite presenting himself as a spiritual figure, Kamaruddin reportedly leads a relatively ordinary life with his family and does not wear traditional religious attire .

The victims Randhir (76), Shiv Naresh Singh (47), and Laxmi Devi (40) were found dead inside a stationary vehicle on Sunday afternoon. Randhir was in the driver’s seat, while the other two were seated in the rear. Police said Kamaruddin had been in contact with the victims for about a year and CCTV footage shows him sitting in the front passenger seat of the car earlier that day.

Investigators suspect that Kamaruddin may have given the victims a “poisoned laddu” , leading to their deaths, though this is still under investigation. Police also reportedly recovered cash worth about ₹2 lakh from the car , allegedly taken by him, while official statements are still evolving.

Authorities said the suspect is being interrogated , and forensic and toxicology reports , including analysis of viscera and traces of poison, are awaited before any definitive conclusions on the causes or method of death can be drawn.
