A tense situation unfolded at a hospital in east Delhi on Friday morning when a patient climbed onto the ledge of a fifth-floor balcony and threatened to jump, prompting a swift emergency response.

According to officials from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) , a distress call was received at around 8:40 am from Kailash Deepak Hospital in Anand Vihar . A fire tender was immediately dispatched to the scene as hospital staff and bystanders gathered below in alarm.

Eyewitness visuals showed the man perched precariously on the narrow ledge, while one individual from a nearby window attempted to engage him in conversation in a bid to calm him down. Hospital staff also joined efforts to counsel and persuade the patient to step back to safety.

Officials said the man remained on the ledge for over 30 minutes , during which coordinated efforts were made to de-escalate the situation. Contrary to speculation, there was no indication that force was used to bring him down, and he was not tackled . Instead, responders relied on verbal intervention and careful negotiation to ensure his safe return.

The reason behind the patient’s actions remains unclear , and authorities have not confirmed whether he was suffering from a terminal illness or any severe medical condition . There was no immediate statement from hospital authorities or the police regarding his medical status or mental health condition.

The patient was eventually brought to safety without injury and is believed to be under observation.

Incidents of this nature often highlight the importance of mental health support within medical facilities , particularly for patients who may be under stress due to illness or personal circumstances. Officials have not ruled out further inquiry into the episode.
