Delhi govt appoints 5,346 new teachers to strengthen classroom learning

The Delhi government has announced the appointment of 5,346 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) in government and municipal schools to enhance classroom learning and provide individual attention to students from classes 6 to 10.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said in a post on X on Wednesday that the move reflects her government’s commitment to ensuring quality education and personalised guidance for every student. “This initiative aims to build an education system where students receive quality education, personalised support, and opportunities to realise their full potential,” she said.

According to officials, the large-scale recruitment is expected to help address the teacher shortage that has affected classroom efficiency and student-teacher ratios in Delhi schools. Currently, around 10,000 teaching posts remain vacant across government schools, education experts noted.

A circular from the Directorate of Education (DoE) issued on October 3 stated that applications for the vacant posts opened on October 9 and will close on November 7.

Official DoE data shows that more than 70,000 teachers currently serve over 18 lakh students in Delhi government schools, underscoring the need for continued teacher recruitment to meet rising enrolment.
