Delhi Government Plans PM Ekta Mall to Showcase Unique Products from Across India
The Delhi government is set to construct a PM Ekta Mall (also called Unity Mall ) in the city to promote unique products from all states and Union Territories (UTs) , officials said on Monday. The move comes under the Centre’s 2023–24 Budget, which allocated Rs 5,000 crore for establishing PM Ekta Malls nationwide. The initiative aims to showcase local handicrafts, GI-tagged products, and items under the One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme .
In Delhi, the proposed mall will feature 36 dedicated spaces representing different states and UTs, allowing visitors to access ODOP products, handicrafts, and other regional items in one location. The Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) has begun hiring an experienced consultant to prepare the architectural and conceptual design of the mall. The consultant will also assist in obtaining necessary approvals, securing financial grants, and overseeing project implementation.
A suitable location is being finalised, with areas such as INA, Majnu Ka Tila, and Pitampura under consideration due to high footfall and tourism potential. Existing DTTDC facilities like Dilli Haat may also be leveraged. The Centre has already allocated funds to 27 states and UTs for PM Ekta Malls, with the respective states responsible for providing the required land.
The Delhi project will be developed under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure scheme , offering funding with repayment terms exceeding 50 years. The Delhi government is expected to contribute Rs 100 crore for the project.
Spread over 1,200 square metres , the mall will include recreational spaces for cultural activities, exhibition halls, conference and summit facilities, and food courts, making it a hub for commerce, tourism, and culture.
Officials said the project is designed to boost regional economies, promote India’s diverse products, and provide a central platform for handicrafts and ODOP items, aligning with the government’s broader goal of supporting local industries and tourism.
