A Delhi court has delivered a rarely swift conviction in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case, completing the entire trial in just eight days and sentencing a 38-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of ₹50,000.

The case stands out for its unusually fast judicial process, which began after the FIR was registered on April 17. Police moved quickly, filing the chargesheet within 34 days , allowing the trial to commence without procedural delays that typically slow down criminal cases.

According to officials, the investigation was strengthened by scientific and forensic evidence , including DNA profiling and medical examination reports, which confirmed the victim’s condition and supported her allegations. Such objective evidence reduced reliance on prolonged witness examination and helped accelerate proceedings.

The victim, a minor who was found to be over 32 weeks pregnant , had alleged repeated sexual assault by her neighbour, who was known to her family. The accused was arrested on the same day the FIR was registered, further contributing to the speed of the investigation.

The trial court concluded proceedings on May 29 and pronounced sentencing the following day, highlighting the efficiency possible in fast-track POCSO courts when investigation and prosecution are properly coordinated.

Officials noted that the case reflects the intended purpose of such special courts—to ensure speedy justice in cases involving sexual offences against children , while minimising prolonged trauma for victims who are required to participate in legal proceedings.

The court awarded life imprisonment till the remainder of the convict’s natural life , underscoring the seriousness of the offence and acting as a strong deterrent against similar crimes. Additionally, the court sanctioned victim compensation of ₹16.5 lakh , reinforcing a victim-centric approach in sensitive cases.

While this case demonstrates the potential efficiency of fast-track systems, legal experts note that such timelines are still not common across all POCSO trials, many of which continue to face procedural and systemic delays.
