Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Presents Rs 1,03,700 Crore Budget for 2026-27

Delhi Chief Minister and Finance Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented the 2026-27 budget with a total outlay of Rs 1,03,700 crore , describing it as a “green budget” aimed at sustainable development under the city’s “triple engine” government . Gupta said the capital is passing through a phase of transition and highlighted that a “culture of freebies” between 2018 and 2020 had affected revenue growth. The budget estimates tax revenue of Rs 74,000 crore , while an allocation of Rs 11,666 crore has been made for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) . She also pointed out that Delhi’s per capita income is the third highest in India .

In infrastructure, the budget earmarks Rs 5,921 crore for the Public Works Department , and Rs 7,887 crore for urban development and shelter projects. Gupta said the aim is to ensure safe roads, climate corridors, and flawless connectivity , with Rs 1,352 crore set aside for developing dust-free roads , including end-to-end recarpeting of 750 km. The government has allocated Rs 200 crore for removal of overhead wiring and announced Rs 300 crore for development of the trans-Yamuna area . The Delhi Gram Vikas Board has been allocated Rs 787 crore , while Rs 160 crore has been earmarked for industrial area development in non-conforming zones , marking the first such allocation.

For traffic and transport, Rs 151 crore is planned to extend the Modi Mill flyover , with the total project cost estimated at Rs 371 crore , and the city government will construct an integrated secretariat and residential complex for employees . Strengthening firefighting infrastructure, especially in narrow lanes and unauthorised colonies, has been allocated Rs 674 crore , a priority underscored after the Palam fire incident .

Water and sewage management remain key priorities, with Rs 9,000 crore allocated to the Delhi Jal Board , including Rs 475 crore for the Chandrawal water treatment plant , ensuring residents do not face shortages or long queues for water tankers. The power department has been allocated Rs 3,942 crore to ensure reliable electricity distribution.

Through these allocations and initiatives, Gupta underscored the government’s focus on urban modernization, sustainability, and citizen-centric infrastructure , signalling a balance between development and environmental responsibility as Delhi continues its rapid growth.
