In a landmark move towards sustainable urban transport, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off 300 new electric buses , taking the Delhi Transport Corporation ( DTC ) fleet to 6,100 vehicles . With this addition, the total number of electric buses in Delhi is now estimated at 4,586 , leaving around 1,514 buses to be converted to achieve 100% electrification of the DTC fleet.

Speaking at the event, CM Gupta emphasized her government’s focus on modernizing public transport and improving last-mile connectivity . “Our goal is to convert the entire DTC fleet into electric buses , offering Delhiites a greener, more reliable commuting experience. Pending EV subsidies are being released to support this transformation,” she said.

Delhi now claims the largest electric bus fleet in India , reflecting the city’s ambition to lead in clean, sustainable public transport . The government is simultaneously expanding EV charging infrastructure to accommodate the growing fleet and ensure smooth operations.

As part of this initiative, an interstate electric bus service between Delhi and Ghaziabad was also launched, underlining the push for eco-friendly connectivity beyond city limits.

CM Gupta also criticized the previous administration led by the Aam Aadmi Party , saying it focused on promises rather than tangible results in public transport. Her government, she asserted, is committed to real, measurable improvements in urban mobility.

With the latest addition of 300 buses, Delhi not only strengthens its transport network but also moves closer to a fully electric, zero-emission public transport system , setting an example for other Indian cities to follow.
